mommy needs to paint

I LOVE LOVE LOVE being a mother. Lukas is perfect in every way. He does however demand 100% of my attention 100% of the time, and how can I not give it to him? He is my firstborn son and I am smitten. We spoil him rotten but I couldn't have it any other way. He is only a baby so when he cries I pick him up. When he whimpers I pick him up. So, I have no time to do anything else. Considering I didn't feel like painting when I was pregnant (and I was worried about the fumes) I haven't done an oil painting in over a year. depressing. Until now. so this is my first attempt, remember it's been a while. I'm not sure if I'm finished with it yet, but this is what I have so far. This is actually a painting I've been wanting to do for a long time. The first pict is taken with the flash, second without. Just trying to get the true color - it just doesn't come through in the pictures. Also, unfortunately the painting clashes with the wall color.

the painting is in keeping with the nautical theme we have throughout the house now. we just got a fishing net and hung it up in the kitchen. I love the starfish. sadly, however, the painting was actually supposed to look like this photograph I took of a shadow of a ship. what is my brain thinking?

nautical themed baby shower

For my first baby shower we decided to make it a nautical theme. My mom and sister (who threw the shower) bought baby blue table cloths, white plates and cups, and noah's ark napkins. Then my sister hung shiny blue and silver stars along with baby blue streamers from the ceiling. For the table center pieces I used some nautical things that we had around the house and things we have bought for Lukas. Here is a treasure chest that I painted and filled with blue yarn and seashells. Here is a pirate ship that I painted for Lukas.
Here is an Octopus that we bought on the cruis to the bahamas. And here are just some seashells from Savannah, Ga and a baby whale piggy bank. isn't it all pretty?
Turned out to be an amazing baby shower and I wouldn't have changed a thing!

new house

(I should mention we do not own this house. we just put an offer on it and we are waiting to hear) this is the front of the house. imagine if the yard is mowed. vinyl siding, concrete porch with pretty wood railing. here is the living room. the ceiling fan goes but that just means we can pick out our own. another shot of the living room.and here is the kitchen. check out those cabinets! and here is the other half of kitchen. and the door that leads out onto the back deck. and here is the laundry closet, which is in the kitchen.the garage was very dark b/c of the lack of electricity so I just shot this picture in the dark.and here we are on the back deck. see how happy leroy is. the back yard is shown here. It actually goes uphill although here it looks flat.
here is the second bathroom tub/shower.this is the vanity in the master bath.this is the closet in the master bath.and this is the tub in the master bath.here is the master bedroom closet. it's even bigger in person.
I didn't actually get any pictures of the rooms but the master bedroom is big and the other two are average. they all have walkin closets. and there is a hallway closet for jackets/coat, etc. so what do ya think?

dinosaur painting

ok, so I haven't done any painting in the past several months but I'm starting to feel better and I'm getting the painting bug back. My cousin asked me if I could do a dinosaur painting for her baby son's room which sounded like a fun project to get me back into my old self. The only difference is I decided to use acrylic paint instead of oils. I love oils more than anything but the smell is just too much for me right now. Plus they take so long to dry and since this painting is going in a baby's room, he doesn't need to be smelling oils and turpentine either. So anywho, here is the painting... raaar! I also painted the edges so this painting can be hung unframed.
