Aspire Studios

So there is a new place in town for artist to show their stuff. Whether it be painting, dancing, tattooing, writing, etc. It's called Aspire Studios and my sister is friends with the owners, so I got the privilege of hanging some paintings and drawings there. For the opening night (which was on Halloween) they had a Rock Masquerade Ball and my sister took some picts of my art. I didn't go to the opening b/c I'm a homebody who's partying days are over. :) so here are the picts my sister took...

wreaths

Ok so it's time to put up the Christmas wreath and I thought I would post some picts of my fall and spring/summer wreaths as well. since I posted so many of the halloween wreath. so here they all are...spring and summer wreath

update

Ok, so apparently I will not be hanging up my art at mojo's starting october 1rst. There was a double booking. However I think I will still be hanging stuff up in the middle of october. ??? so this gives me more time to get stuff done which is good b/c I've found it hard to focus this week...and my vacation is almost over.

Woo Hoo! I finally finished my Halloween wreath.
First I wraped the entire wreath with black glittery ribbon. Then for the sign I used some cardboard. I cut it to make it look all ragged. Then I finger painted the edges brown and black to make it look burnt. I also painted the Happy Halloween and spiderwebs. Next I glued the black spider bugs on the bottom right hand corner. Then I added the glitter bat stickers. Finally I added the Altmans in blood red. I attached the sign by using a hole cutter to poke holes in the top corners. Then Iused black ribbon to tie the sign to the wreath. For the flowers I really wanted black roses but didn't have any and they are kinda expensive. So I took some old red roses that I've had for a while and I painted some completely black. The others I just painted the edges black. then I glue black glitter to the edges. I also added lots of spiders and spiderwebs as well as skull heads.
and ofcourse the black crow. I just love him. Here are some other pictures of our front porch.
We will ofcourse add more stuff as Halloween gets closer. A scarecrow, a couple of pumpkins, who knows what we'll think of.

monster drawings

*Swim at Your Own Risk* black ink drawing on paper 8 x 10 inches

ok , so I have a little less than two weeks to get everything done and ready to hang at mojo burrito. I have about seven paintings I can sell but I need more stuff. So I've been drawing. It's less expensive and time consuming than painting and I do love to draw. I've been using this character that I created back in 1995 when I was a junior in high school. Our art teacher had given some students an assignment to write, illustrate, and bind their own book. I loved this idea and decided to do one myself. It took me a good two year to complete but by the time I graduated from high school it was done. It was called "The world doesn't listen, it looks". My main character was a little girl named Patrilia. That original book was unfortunately lost. Then three years later as a junior at Berry College I decided to make my senior thesis based around Patrilia. I wrote another book, very similar to the first and my art show consisted of paintings and monoprints that illustrated the story. I even had a reading where I read the book in front of the art. My dream was to turn the story into a screenplay? Isn't that what they call it when you want a book turned into a movie? Anywho, my dream was to have Tim Burton direct it. I started rewriting the story complete with a soundtrack and everything. Then I went into the coma. and lost everything I owned. SO, it seems that Patrilia will just have to live and die with me in my mind. Or will she? I wanted to draw some spooky pictures for the mojo show and didn't even intend on Patrilia being in them but it just turned out that way. so here she is...in one dangerous predicament or another.

  • ghost
  • haunted mansions
  • ....do you have some suggestions? please tell me what makes you think of Halloween?

things are about to get busy

ok. so there is this wonderful little eatery called 'mojo burrito'. There are two of them where I live (same owners) and they support local artist by showing their work. I think this is wonderful. I've shown my art at mojo's twice now. The last time was just back in July. I sold several peices and was very happy. The last day that I went to pick up my art I had mentioned how much I would like to do a Halloween themed show. Nothing was really finalized though so I didn't think to much more about it. Then it hit me, what if they have me booked for October and I don't even know it? What if October comes and I don't show up and I miss out on this wonderful opportunity? So I got my brother-in-law (who manages one of the stores) to find out. Apparently no one was scheleduled so October is mine. excellent. except I have not been painting as much and the two good halloween paintings I have are on sale at my etsy shop. So I have a lot of work to do.

elegant whimsy

this is my lamp. It was my sister's lamp when we were little. Then at some point she decided she didn't like the flowers in the base so she painted it pink. Then years later I found the lamp in my parents linen closet and adopted it. I scrapped off the paint (pooryly as you can see). Then I bought a new shade for the lamp. I got one of those sticky shades from Hobby Lobby where you can decorate it yourself. So I had this fabric that I loved but it wasn't big enough. So I just patched it on there as well as I could. Then I hot glued the beaded fringe on and there you have it. I love it. My sister thinks it's tacky. To me it definetly adds some elegant whimsy to my room. At night the beads seem to just glitter with the light. What do you think?

for the love of the cards

I always thought I would enjoy working for a card company. Even when I was pretty young. Back then I thought the only card company in the world was Hallmark. So I wanted to work for Hallmark. I also wanted to work for Nickelodeon. Ofcourse the world isn't any thing like what we think it is like when we are young. I did work for a card company called "You Send Me" for a little while. They have the MOST adorable cards. I started out in packaging and finally got my own desk. I think I was a production artist. It was all the owners designs, we just added glitter and embellishments. It was a wonderful job but I was in the height of my bad decision making days and probably didn't enjoy as much as I should have. The job I have now is also wonderful although not very creative. I only work part time and have a lot of free time to draw. So for the past few years I've been drawing and sending cards to my friends who live all over. And ofcourse there was the fairy tea party invitations. Now, finally I am trying to sell these cards. I've been posting them on etsy but so far no buyers. That's ok though because I love doing it and maybe one day I'll make a sell. I've mostly been doing fairies, but I'm trying to branch out. I mean, why not? I've done a couple of Halloween cards and I have more in the make. I love Halloween. anywho, here are some of the ones I've done that are up for sale.
This one is called "I love you this much". I think it's cute. It could be for Valentine's day or just any day. I like the idea of getting something like this for no reason at all. (except for the love ofcourse)and here is another fairy. They are always fun to draw. and here is one of the Halloween cards. Isn't she cute?

Love is the Spice of Life.

ok, so this is what I came up with. I used a pink satiny type fabric for the back and a red mesh for the front. Then I sewed the word LOVE on red felt using pink beads. Then I stuffed it with dried herbs from my garden. I used lemon balm and chocolate mint. I love the way chocolate mint smells. (I love chocolate) Although I wish I would have had more dried herbs on hand I think it smells great. Oh, and then I used orange lace to hang it with. I have it hanging in my kitchen for two reasons. #1. It smells good #2. It will always remind me that the best ingredient for any dish is Love.
