Most cards that I make I have documented in my etsy shop. Even if one sales I still have pictures of it. Occasionally I make cards for friends that I really like and want to document them too, so that's what I'm doing here. I made as a thank you card for my son's pre-k teacher and after I wrote the bible verse I accidentally wrote Psalm instead of Proverbs, because most of my favorite verses are from Psalms and I am so used to writing that. So I covered upmy mistake and the card ended up like a Monet painting. okay so I may be the only person who thinks that but I like it. so here it is.

sweet peas are hard
Let me clarify, drawing the sweet pea blossom is very difficult. Have you ever studied the blossom of the sweet pea? The mixed runner sweet pea to be exact. They are very difficult to disect. Maybe if I had a real one I could figure it out but looking at photos on the web is not helping me. Let me back up...
I was so excited when I read that the Baker Creek Seed Company was looking for illustrators to illustrate seed packets. That's a job I can do from home (since I am now a stay at home mom) and they even offer to pay in seeds! (a gardener's dream) So I was so excited, I emailed them and they wrote back. The plant they want me to illustrate is the mixed runner sweet pea. Maybe it is a test to weed out lousy illustraters which apparently I am because I am having a very hard time. So far, this is what I have...

So this is what I've come up with. I like it but I don't think it is seed packet material. I'm trying to a drawing in colored pencil but it isn't turning out so well. So, I will probably end up sending this one to the Baker Creek people so at least I can say I tried. If only they had given me a sunflower or a tomato. ...sigh....

monster drawings

ok , so I have a little less than two weeks to get everything done and ready to hang at mojo burrito. I have about seven paintings I can sell but I need more stuff. So I've been drawing. It's less expensive and time consuming than painting and I do love to draw. I've been using this character that I created back in 1995 when I was a junior in high school. Our art teacher had given some students an assignment to write, illustrate, and bind their own book. I loved this idea and decided to do one myself. It took me a good two year to complete but by the time I graduated from high school it was done. It was called "The world doesn't listen, it looks". My main character was a little girl named Patrilia. That original book was unfortunately lost. Then three years later as a junior at Berry College I decided to make my senior thesis based around Patrilia. I wrote another book, very similar to the first and my art show consisted of paintings and monoprints that illustrated the story. I even had a reading where I read the book in front of the art. My dream was to turn the story into a screenplay? Isn't that what they call it when you want a book turned into a movie? Anywho, my dream was to have Tim Burton direct it. I started rewriting the story complete with a soundtrack and everything. Then I went into the coma. and lost everything I owned. SO, it seems that Patrilia will just have to live and die with me in my mind. Or will she? I wanted to draw some spooky pictures for the mojo show and didn't even intend on Patrilia being in them but it just turned out that way. so here she is...in one dangerous predicament or another.
